Marieke van den Bergh, Barrister

Marieke has more than 15 years representing clients across a range of personal and relationship concerns.  

Her interest and experience with relationship dynamics, and in particular families and young people, sees her acting as a court appointed lawyer for children and lawyer to assist the Court, , care of children, relationship property disputes, Oranga Tamariki and acting for clients seeking legal guardianship and adoption services among other specialisations.  

She is knowledgeable and trustworthy, and enjoys helping clients find resolution, no matter how sensitive or complex the issue.  

Marieke graduated from Canterbury University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and has worked in a range of small and medium sized firms, local and central government, covering family law, environmental and planning law, criminal and civil law in both the UK and Aotearoa, New Zealand. 

Marieke has acted in all aspects of family law cases, including negotiation, mediation,  hearings in the Family Court and appeals to the High Court. 

Marieke co-authored the Thomson Reuters publication Family Violence: Act & Analysis in 2020.

Marieke is a member of the NZ Bar Association and the Family Law Section of the New Zealand Law Society. 

    Most recently Marieke was a director in Cuba Family Law, before establishing her own practice from a desire to have a stronger work-life balance, particularly with a young family.
